+ | While lacking finesse and subtlety, Ash more than makes up for with her brutal tactics and general overkill, making a name for herself by volunteering for front-line duty using experimental heavy armor and siege weaponry, earning her the "War Machine" nickname. When the Crystal War broke out, Ash led the charge against the newly formed Resistance, shattering the Stagalla known as Terminus to pieces. |
||
+ | |||
+ | Following this, Ash would end up in a fight against Tyra near Ascension Peak, only to be attacked by Androxus before subsequently defeating him and continuing the original battle. |
||
+ | |||
+ | At an even later point, Ash would join Atlas as he led a group of champions into the Shattered Desert to fight Yagorath. |
||
+ | |||
+ | In the Lost Future, Ash was seemingly killed at some point. |

Ash ▶️ is a Front Line Champion in Paladins, added on June 1st, 2017.
Lore[ | ]
This is Ash's official bio currently found in her champion page in-game.
Ash made a name for herself in the Magistrate army by volunteering for front-line duty using experimental heavy armor and siege weaponry. Lacking finesse or subtlety, she more than makes up for it with brutal tactics and overkill.
The War Machine, as she is called by her allies and enemies alike, earns the title every time the dust settles and she is all that remains on the scorched battlefield. When the Resistance emerged and brought the war to Crosswind Hold, Ash led the charge against them with fury and determination.
This is an unofficial version of Ash's bio intended to more clearly present all currently known information regarding her. Sources can be found here.
While lacking finesse and subtlety, Ash more than makes up for with her brutal tactics and general overkill, making a name for herself by volunteering for front-line duty using experimental heavy armor and siege weaponry, earning her the "War Machine" nickname. When the Crystal War broke out, Ash led the charge against the newly formed Resistance, shattering the Stagalla known as Terminus to pieces.
Following this, Ash would end up in a fight against Tyra near Ascension Peak, only to be attacked by Androxus before subsequently defeating him and continuing the original battle.
At an even later point, Ash would join Atlas as he led a group of champions into the Shattered Desert to fight Yagorath.
In the Lost Future, Ash was seemingly killed at some point.
This was Ash's in-game bio prior to the The Damned Frontier update. It's no longer considered canon.
Ash made a name for herself in the Magistrate army by volunteering for front-line duty using experimental heavy armor and siege weaponry. Lacking finesse or subtlety, she more than makes up for it with brutal tactics and overkill. The War Machine, as she is called by her allies and enemies alike, earned the title every time the dust settled and she was all that remained on the scorched battlefield.
When the Resistance emerged and brought the war to Crosswind Hold, Ash led the charge against them with fury and determination.
Summary[ | ]
Ash is a front line champion who wields a flak cannon that is effective up to medium range. She specializes in point control through heavy crowd control and damage reduction with her skills. Her cannon projectiles prematurely explode after traveling a certain distance, making Ash unique in her ability to damage enemies around corners or under ledges with only her primary weapon attack. Her ultimate skill plants a banner that provides her with damage immunity while within its area of effect, making Ash ideal for last stands or to stall and buy time for her team.

Trivia[ | ]
Lore
- Ash isn't the first person to have used the experimental armor and siege weaponry she wields in-game, as can be seen in a number of her cards.
- Ash is the one who shattered Terminus. [1]
- Based on a dev statement revealing Viktor to be around 5'9 or 175cm tall and comparing it to model sizes in-game and out of game, it was discovered that Ash would be around 6' or 182cm tall.
Cameos
Ash appears in the following content:
- Cinematics and Trailers
- A Realm Divided - Cinematic*
- Go To War - Cinematic
- Yagorath's Teaser Trailer
- Cards
- Air Supremacy - Octavia Card
- Avatars
- Sprays
- Other
- Cuddly Yagorath Splash Art*
- Demon Power - Death Card*
- Rebel With A Cause - Realm Royale Avatar
Notable Characters that appear in Ash's own content includes:
- Cinematics and Trailers
- Buck and Drogoz - Ash's Teaser Trailer
References
- Ash shares some similarities with the interpretation of Bellona from Smite, another game developed by Hi-Rez. For example, the removed talent 'Rally Here' is named after Bellona's ultimate voice line.
- The phrase "Iron within, iron without!" (▶️) references the watchword of the Legion of the Space Marines Iron Warriors from the Universe Warhammer 40,000.
- One of Ash's taunts "I love rock n' roll..." (▶️) is a reference to I Love Rock 'N Roll.
- The line "I don't give a damn about my reputation." (▶️) is a reference to the song Bad Reputation.
- The line "Does it come in black?" (▶️) is a reference to a line from Batman Begins.
- The line "Never give up, never surrender!" (▶️) is a reference to a line from the movie Galaxy Quest.
Other
- Prior to lip syncing becoming more common from Octavia's teaser trailer onward, Ash is one of the only champions to ever speak with their mouth visibly moving.[3] She shares this trait with Imani, Talus, Tiberius, and Vivian.
- Ash sometimes has a toothpick in her mouth, such as during her teaser trailer, the Go To War cinematic, and Octavia's card, Air Supremacy.[4][5]
- Despite being completely removed prior to being added to the game, Ash's originally had her entire body modeled, with armor being added on top afterwards.[6]
- When Rayph Beisner (more commonly known in the community as ThunderBrush) joined the game and became art director, he created a concept piece of a redesigned Ash to demonstrate how he hoped for Paladins' art direction to change. While this design wasn't and seemingly currently still isn't planned to release as a skin or visual rework, it does serve as an indication of how Ash may have looked if she were designed in 2018 or later.[7]
- Ash used to cost 60,000 Gold or 300 Crystals to unlock prior to being made free in the RWBY update.
- One of Ash's current introduction lines, "I'm leading this vanguard. So if any of you f***ers have anything to say, now's the time." (▶️), originally featured her saying "muppets" instead of "f***ers". (▶️)
- In older versions of Paladins, there used to be a number of additional recolors of default champions. For Ash, these recolors included the Plated and Tempered skins.
- Having been present in the mobile game 'Paladins Strike', Ash received unique skins exclusive to Strike. These skins include Commander Ash and Firecracker Ash.
Champion Skins
- Hellion
- This skin's name references a troublemaking type of person.
- Heirloom Crest
- This skin is a remnant from the removed Parts and Pieces system.
- Ronin
- This skin's line "I-idiot. It's not like I was trying to protect you or a-anything!" (▶️) is a reference to a stereotypical Tsundere, a common character archetype in anime.
- The line "You're amazing, senpai!" (▶️) is a reference to a common term used in anime to describe an upperclassman.
- This skin's kill taunt against Makoa "Tonight I dine on turtle soup!" (▶️) is a reference to the Shredder from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
- This skin was originally meant to have [hair covering one of its eyes.[8]
- This skin's splash art appears as a spray.
- Xeno-Buster
- Dreadhunter Drogoz is present in this skin's splash art.
- This skin was removed from all chests it was in, for it to later appear as a Twitch Prime reward; it shares this trait with Firecracker Willo, Infiltrator Strix, Carnival Ying, and Omega Dredge.
- Street Style
- Street Style Maeve, Street Style Skye, and Street Style Ying all appear in this skin's splash art.
- Likewise, this skin is also present in each of their splash arts as well.
- This skin shares its theme with Street Style Maeve, Street Style Skye, and Street Style Ying.
- Street Style Maeve, Street Style Skye, and Street Style Ying all appear in this skin's splash art.
- Ska'drin / Scorned
- These skins were the first reveal of Wekono and Mal'Damba having some connection with the Ska'drin.[9]
- The mark that appears when these skins dash is the same mark that appears when Talus uses Rune of Travel.
- The mark that appears when these skins use their ultimate is the same mark that appears when Talus uses his ultimate.
- The mark that appears when these skins have Kinetic Burst active is similar to the mark that appears when Vatu uses his ultimate ability.
- Several Ska'drin versions of other characters are present in the background of these skins' splash arts. Most notable among these is Corvus, with this cameo being prior to his official reveal.
- The Ska'drin skin expectedly appears in the Ska'drin Ash avatar.
- The Ska'drin skin also appears in the Proud Warrior and Hopeful Days sprays.
- These skins were designed by Illustra Dart for the Community Battle Pass.[11]
- This makes them some of the few skins to have been designed by a community member, sharing this trait with Wukong Talus, Soul Briar Grover, Dark Monarch Lian, Sweet Shop Evie, and the respective recolors of the former three.
- These skins were part of the Community Battle Pass alongside Wukong Talus, Monkey-King Talus, Soul Briar Grover, Seeping Corruption Grover, Dark Monarch Lian, and Death-Goddess Lian.
- Draconian Huntress
- This skin shares its voice pack with the Ska'drin and Scorned skins, making it one of the only skins to share its voice pack with another non-recolor skin.
- This skin appears in the From The Ashes avatar.
- This skin's flag appears in the Dragon's Doom spray.
- This skin shares its theme with Draconic Fighter Viktor, Hunter's Bane Viktor, Scalebane Strix, Dragonsbane Strix, Draconic Enforcer Khan, Ironscale Khan, Solfire Furia, and Dragonslayer Furia.
