Grohk is one of the Champions in Paladins.

Lore[edit | edit source]

Being struck by lightning once is usually more than enough to kill someone, but after dozens of strikes, Grohk was still standing. Though it took a while to realize Grohk had been imbued with the power to control the lightning itself, he put it to good use defending his tribe from a goblin attack that would have otherwise destroyed them. Seeing his power as a sign from the weather spirits, the rest of the Red River orcs immediately appointed him their chieftain.

When the Realm erupted into civil war, he sensed another storm brewing and joined the battle on behalf of his tribe.

Lightning Staff

Direct Damage

A medium range staff that creates a channeled beam of lightning dealing 75 damage per hit every 0.1 seconds. Deals up to 30% more damage the longer you are on target.

Details

  • Gains 0.5% ultimate charge per damage tick.
  • Has a range of 120.
  • Has dynamic damage fall off.
  • Has an ammo count of 100.
  • Weapon can actually be reloaded, but only automatically when Grohk runs out of ammo.
  • Reload time is 3s.
  • As this is a reload, it is affected by reload speed increases, like Deft Hands item.
  • Can be fired for 5s straight before it overheats.
  • There is a 0.5s delay before it beings to recharge, and it takes 1s for it to fully recharge.

Shock Pulse

Fire a projectile that deals 150 damage and bounces between enemy players.

Details

  • Gains 1% ultimate charge on the initial hit, then 0.6% on subsequent bounces. Maximum of 4% ultimate charge if Shock Pulse hits its maximum bounce limit.
  • Deals 150 damage when it bounces.
  • The initial projectile has a range of 200.
  • Has a bounce range of 50.
  • Will not bounce if too far from Grohk.
  • The projectile can bounce up to 5 times.
  • Cannot be used while Lightning Staff is reloading from overheating.

Healing Totem

 

Deploy a 1000 health totem up to 100 feet away that heals nearby allies for 420 Health every second and lasts 6 seconds.

Details

  • Heals by applying a 1s buff that is refreshed every 0.25s.
  • This means that the totem will continue to heal allies briefly after leaving its radius.
  • Generates ~1.04% of ultimate charge per second per ally healed.
  • Self-healing and overhealing will not generate ultimate.
  • Cannot be used while airborne.
  • Can be placed on temporary plataforms and moving objectives but will not stick to them. Once the plataform is gone, the totem will float at the location it was originally placed.
  • Can heal allies in its radius even through walls.
  • A deployed Healing Totem is destroyed when Grohk dies.

Ghost Walk

 

Become untargetable and gain 20% movement speed for 1s. Removes all debuffs on use.

Tempest (Ultimate)

Area Damage

Surge with Power and take flight for 5s. Slow and strike nearby enemies for 200 damage while speeding up and healing nearby allies and 2 nearby allies for 500 health every 0.5s.

  • Grohk gains Crowd Control Immunity for the duration.
  • Enemies hit are slowed by 60% for 2s, allies healed gain 60% movement speed for 2s.
  • Grohk cannot use his weapon or any other skills but is still able to move while channeling.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Grohk had several design alterations during development, with an early concept art depicted him as a human character. Eventually they settled for his current blue orc appearance.
  • Grohk's line, "It's not easy being blue, but it's worse to be you!" might be a reference to Kermit the Frog's song, "Bein' Green".
  • Grohk was called Wog in very early stages of development, but it was changed to his current name.
  • Grohk's line, "I'm blue daba-dee-da-you-die," is a reference to Eiffel 65's song "Blue (Da Ba Dee)".
    • Pip makes another reference to this song upon killing Grohk.
  • His emote "Grohk Slide" is a reference to the Electric Slide.
