+ | While Lian had schemed her way into setting herself up as the legitimate heiress of the Ruby Throne, her sincere dedication to her family's legacy and skill with the rifle won her the respect of of her family's royal guard, as well as the title of "Scion". |
||
+ | |||
+ | When the Magistrate called on all loyal houses to aid them in their battle against the Resistance, Lian was honor-bound to accept, journeying from her far-off homeland to represent her house alongside her personal advisor and protector, Khan. |
||
+ | |||
+ | Following this, news would eventually reach House Aico of the self-proclaimed god, Jenos', return from the cosmos. Lian decided to attempt and recruit Jenos into House Aico's ranks, and sent Khan to bring him back. Though while Khan was dedicated to bringing Jenos back, House Aico was ultimately unsuccessful in recruiting the self-proclaimed god. When news of Ascension Peak reached Karne, he was not pleased with Lian. |
||
+ | |||
+ | Despite this, when the Magistrate called on the royal houses to assist in defending the Realm from Yagorath, Lian accepted the call to arms, sending Rei and Khan to assist in battle, as well as to retrieve a special codex from the Aico Library in Crosswind Hold. |
||
+ | |||
+ | Following Yagorath's defeat, Karne believed he had failed, leading to him entrusting leadership of the Magistrate to Lian and House Aico. While people celebrated the new promises of peace, under House Aico's rule, the discrimination against the Ska'drin became far worse. |
||
+ | |||
+ | Later, when Corvus was gravely injured and left for dead, Lian brought him in and called on her old friend, Lillith, in an attempt to save his life. |

Lian ▶️ is a Damage Champion in Paladins, added on July 12th, 2017.
Lore[ | ]
This is Lian's official bio currently found in her champion page in-game.
After a successful ploy to set herself up as the legitimate heiress to the Ruby Throne, nothing stood in Lian's way. Her sincere dedication to her family's legacy may have earned her the title of Scion, but her skill with the rifle is what won her the respect of her family's Royal Guard.
When the Magistrate called on all loyal houses to unite against the Resistance, she was honor-bound to accept, arriving from her far-off homeland to represent House Aico along with her faithful bodyguard and general, Khan, and her closest advisor, Rei. Her politics were only further rewarded when Karne stepped down, abdicating the Magistrate and the title Grand Magister, to her and House Aico.
This is an unofficial version of Lian's bio intended to more clearly present all currently known information regarding her. Sources can be found here.
While Lian had schemed her way into setting herself up as the legitimate heiress of the Ruby Throne, her sincere dedication to her family's legacy and skill with the rifle won her the respect of of her family's royal guard, as well as the title of "Scion".
When the Magistrate called on all loyal houses to aid them in their battle against the Resistance, Lian was honor-bound to accept, journeying from her far-off homeland to represent her house alongside her personal advisor and protector, Khan.
Following this, news would eventually reach House Aico of the self-proclaimed god, Jenos', return from the cosmos.
Despite this, when the Magistrate called on the royal houses to assist in defending the Realm from Yagorath, Lian accepted the call to arms, sending Rei and Khan to assist in battle, as well as to retrieve a special codex from the Aico Library in Crosswind Hold.
Following Yagorath's defeat, Karne believed he had failed, leading to him entrusting leadership of the Magistrate to Lian and House Aico. While people celebrated the new promises of peace, under House Aico's rule, the discrimination against the Ska'drin became far worse.
Later, when Corvus was gravely injured and left for dead, Lian brought him in and called on her old friend, Lillith, in an attempt to save his life.
This was Lian's in-game bio prior to the The Damned Frontier update. It's no longer considered canon.
After plotting to set herself up as the legitimate heiress to the Ruby Throne, nothing stood in Lian's way. Her sincere dedication to her family's legacy may have earned her the title of Scion, but her skill with the rifle is what won her the respect of her family's Royal Guard.
When the Magistrate called on all loyal houses to unite against the Resistance, she was honor-bound to accept, arriving from her far-off homeland to represent House Aico along with her faithful bodyguard and general, Khan.
Summary[ | ]
Lian is a damage champion capable of dealing moderate amounts of damage in short time periods and who specializes in medium range combat and long range executions. Her semi-automatic Heirloom Rifle allows her to pressure enemy backlines and easily handle immediate threats. Unique to Lian, all her standard skills apply on-hit weapon effects such as Cauterize. Her ultimate skill, Enlightenment, deals high damage in a straight line while granting damage reduction and CC immunity while firing it, making it ideal for last stands and confirming runaway kills.

Trivia[ | ]
Lore
- Lian's full name is seemingly Lian Amarasi-Marila.[2][3]
- Lian rules over an entire kingdom.[4]
- Lian and House Aico have connections to the original Paladins.[5]
- Lian took over House Aico after her father.[6]
- On top of being somewhat of a princess, Lian's also a commander.[7]
- Though the Siege of Ascension Peak lore cinematic made it seem as though Lian wanted to recruit Jenos into the Magistrate, she really only wanted to recruit him into House Aico. When Karne heard of what she did he wasn't pleased.[8]
- Though Lian is an extreme character, with her not always listening to the Magistrate, she's not meant to be evil, she just does what she believes is necessary to achieve her goals, those being to represent her house and to restore what she feels is her own, and the house's, rightful place.[9]
- Lian prefers wearing formal garments over armor.[2][3]
- Enlightenment is the embodiment of Lian's noble spirit.[11]
- Khan and Lian aren't siblings.[12]
- Based on a dev statement revealing Viktor to be around 5'9 or 175cm tall and comparing it to model sizes in-game and out of game, it was discovered that Lian would be around 5'6 or 166cm tall.

References
- One of Lian's voice lines, "In this game, you win or you die. There is no middle ground." (▶️), is a reference to a line from Game of Thrones.
- Lian's default emote is likely a reference to Boa Hancock from the anime One Piece.
Other
- Lian is one of the few champions to have received an Announcer Pack.
- Lian is one of the only characters to have an official Twitter account, sharing this trait with Jenos and Khan; all three of which were created as part of a promotion for Siege of Ascension Peak and Khan's own release.[2][3]
- Lian's codename was "Princess".[15]
- Lian is tied with Jenos, Khan, and Strix as having received the most unique skins from Battle Passes.
- In older versions of Paladins, there used to be a number of additional recolors of default champions. For Lian, these recolors included the Peridot and Veridian skins.
Champion Skins
- Dusk
- Goddess
- This skin is based on the intepretation of Hera from one of Hi-Rez's other games, Smite.[17]
- This skin's kill taunt against Strix "You flew too close to the sun." (▶️) could be a reference to Icarus, an angel that flew too close to the sun and burnt his wings.
- One of this skin's jokes, "Confess your sins unto to me, child, and I will absolve you. Flank Pip? Sorry, you're beyond saving." (▶️), is a reference to a joke within the Paladins community poking fun at players who use Pip as a Flank champion as opposed to his intended purpose as a Support champion.
- One of this skin's jokes, "I try to be more involved than other deities. Most of them just want to fight each other, or periodically race go-karts." (▶️), is likely a reference to another game by Hi-Rez, SMITE, and a limited-time event the game had known as Apollo's Racer Rumble.
- This skin's splash art appears as a spray.
- This skin shares its theme with God of War Fernando and Buckules Buck.
- High Elf

- This skin's splash art appears as a spray.
- Galactic Scion
- This skin is heavily based on Princess Leia's slave costume from Episode VI from Star Wars.
- This skin originally featured Lian's legs completely bare, but it was changed prior to release for an unknown reason, possibly to differentiate it a bit more from its inspiration.[18]
- V1-KTOR Viktor appears in this skin's splash art.
- This skin shares its theme with Dune Crawler Cassie, Mercenary Strix, Dark Lord Torvald and Ebon Star Zhin.
- Merrymaker
- The line "Dashing through the snow." (▶️) is a reference to the song Jingle Bells.
- The line "Deck the halls." (▶️) references the Christmas song Deck the Halls.
- This skin shares the joke "What do you call an old snowman? Water." (▶️) with Merrymaker Maeve.
- A number of early concepts show various unused designs of this skin.[19]
- This skin is present in Merrymaker Dredge's splash art.
- This skin appears in the Cutesy Lian avatar.
- This skin shares its theme with A-bomb-inable Bomb King, Merrymaker Evie, Merrymaker Dredge, Merrymaker Maeve, Sugar Plum Willo, and Kraumpus Raum.
- Shore Patrol / Beach Bash
- Certain voice lines refer to an unseen character named "Neil" (▶️ ▶️), which references a running joke in the Paladins community where Lian's ultimate voice line (▶️) would be misheard as "Neil!".
- In a promotional tweet for the Pirate's Treasure Chest, an image of the Beach Bash skin is mistakenly used instead of the Shore Patrol skin.
- Two similar accidents also occurred with the Battle Pass 2019 Chest, and Kinessa's beach skins.
- The Shore Patrol skin appears in the Sunset avatar.
- The Shore Patrol skin also appears in the Fun in the Sun spray.
- These skins share their theme with Sun Kissed Cassie, Copacabana Cassie, Longboard Lex, Sarrada Lex, Beach Bunny Rei, Beachside Octavia, Freedom Fighter Octavia, Lifeguard Tiberius, Shore Patrol Kinessa, Shore Patrol Koga, Shore Patrol Fernando, and the Beach Bash variants of the latter three.
- Dark Monarch / Death-Goddess
- The Dark Monarch skin appears in the Dark Monarch and Goddess of Death avatars.
- The Dark Monarch skin also appears in the Dark Queen spray.
- The Dark Monarch skin is also part of a design featured on various pieces of Paladins merchandise.
- These skins were designed by Alexis_Pflaum (who also designed Soul Briar Grover and Seeping Corruption Grover) for the Community Battle Pass.[20]
- This makes them some of the few skins to have been designed by a community member, sharing this trait with Ska'drin Ash, Wukong Talus, Soul Briar Grover, Sweet Shop Evie, and the respective recolors of the former three.
- These skins were part of the Community Battle Pass alongside Ska'drin Ash, Scorned Ash, Wukong Talus, Monkey-King Talus, Soul Briar Grover, and Seeping Corruption Grover.

- Soulweaver / Death Mage
- The line "Death rides on a pale horse, or whatever this is, I guess." (▶️) is a reference to Revelation 6:8 "And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth."
- The line "Your hip bone is connected from your... thigh bone, your thigh bone's connected from your... knee bone... oh drat, whatever, it'll still kill." (▶️) references the song Dem Bones.
- The line "What's life without some happy little mistakes?" (▶️) is a reference to a line spoken by Bob Ross.
- The Soulweaver skin fittingly appears in the avatar of the same name.
- These skins went through several concepts prior to the final design being settled on.[21]
- The Death Mage skin was originally intended to be colored purple instead of orange and green, but it was ultimately changed.[22]
- These skins share their theme with Oni Talus, Soul Eater Jenos, Aka Oni Tiberius, Aoi Oni Tiberius, and Bloody Bakemono Koga.
