Shattered Desert is one of the maps in Paladins and was released in the Paladins 2.2 update.
Like every Siege Map, Shattered Desert also has certain callouts.

Description[ | ]

This map is one of the few maps with a rotated layout, unlike most maps, having a mirrored layout. The map has a unique design, with the two sides having different appearances that distinguishes them. Like all other siege maps, There is a Capture Point in the middle. The bases are located at opposite ends of the map.

The Game Mode that is currently playable in this map is Siege.

Centuries ago, the moon was shattered, broken into countless pieces that rained into the Realm below, with most landing in the south of the Realm, turning the once lush forest covered portion of the Realm into a lifeless, shattered desert, the event going on to become a legend.[3]

Around one of these shards, the Followers of Io constructed a town to live in order to protect and care for their goddess,[4] while around the other shards, temples were constructed,[5] alongside a group of martial warriors being tasked with protecting the location to ensure the chaos that had been sealed away in the other shards would never break free to threaten the Realm.[6] Over time, the temples were reduced to ancient ruins, yet nonetheless, the warriors remained to uphold their vows.[7][8] Despite the circumstances, the desert remained peaceful throughout these centuries.[9]

However, this all changed when the growing conflict of the Crystal War eventually found its way into the Lunar Coast. Seeking the legend of the force that had shattered the moon in the hopes of defeating the other side, as well as being attracted by strange tears in reality, the Magistrate and Resistance arrived in the Shattered Desert, and as expected, upon the two sides meeting, battle ensued, at first fighting over the tears in reality within the desert itself,[10] only for their conflict to move into the nearby town of Bazaar, causing massive damage and loss of life before finally being repelled.

The town and nearby area had been left in ruins, and all but one of the martial warriors had been killed. The last warrior, Vora, saw the destruction, saw her goddess, Io, as having abandoned them, and ultimately decided to release the Darkness she had vowed to keep sealed in order to bring about an end to the Realm itself. After using her new power to cause chaos in her old home of Bazaar,[11][12] Vora returned to the Shattered Desert to take part in a large battle between Yagorath and the numerous champions Atlas had gathered in an attempt to stop her.[13]

As can be seen in Trials of the Realm[1], the Shattered Desert is part of a larger area known as the 'Lunar Coast', alongside Ascension Peak and the Thousand Hands Guild, with Bazaar also being nearby, as can be seen in the official map of the Realm.

As mentioned here, some areas of the forest that was once present here may still be around.

Runic Fire[ | ]

This map does not have a strict vertical limit. To prevent champions with vertical movement abilities from camping on the rocks, there are burning grounds that deals Damage over Time. Parts of the map boundary are also made of this burning ground. This burning ground appears exclusively on this map at the moment.

Quicksand[ | ]

Quicksand reduce the player's movement speed. Quicksand appears exclusively on this map at the moment.

Trivia[ | ]

  • This map received a small visual change in the Calamity update, making the capture point visibly shattered with red energy pouring out, tying into Yagorath's release.
  • The fire that surrounds this map is known as "Runic Fire" and is the result of runes and some form of moon magic.[14][15]
  • A faint image of Luna, Io's familiar, can occasionally be seen in both spawn rooms.
  • A portal showing The Lost Future used to appear in a hidden corner of one side of the map,[16] though this was eventually removed at an unknown point.
  • As shown here, there was originally going to be somewhat more vegetation in this map.
  • Other early concepts show a number of additional differences, such larger statues, darker colors, and what appears to be some sort of shrine.[17]
  • A large skeleton can be seen in the distance of this map, possibly belonging to a deceased dragon.
  • This map appears in a number of Vora and Yagorath's cards, as well as Octavia's cards Overwhelming Force and Vantage Point.
  • Atlas, Vora, and Yagorath's teaser trailers all feature this map.
  • This map also appears in Ska'drin and Scorned Ash's splash arts.
  • This map could be played in the test map queue as Deathgate before release.
