Vora is a Flank Champion in Paladins, added on October 28th, 2020.

Lore

A life, once devoted to Io, the Moon Goddess. Her sacred martial order was one tasked with protecting ancient seals, but even they did not know the extent of the chaos beneath. Feeling forsaken by her Goddess, surrounded by unanswered prayers and broken bodies, she has chosen to embrace that chaos. The Realm is on a path of self-destruction, but she will deliver it from that fate. She brings the end... of those wars, of that suffering - an end to everything. Those who know her dread her coming, for she is Vora, Harbinger of the End of the Realm; and they are not prepared.

Trivia

  • As revealed here, before becoming an acolyte of Io, Vora was originally a dancer. It was later specified here to be ballet.
  • The reason Vora is lacking the mark under her eye in the card A Broken Path is due to the card showing Vora's initiation ritual, as revealed here.
    • Though some concept art does feature Vora with this mark.
  • Vora's outfit is a priestess dress of Io, as stated here.
  • As explained here, Vora is not being controlled by the Darkness. As expanded on here and here Vora is aware of what she's doing, and isn't corrupted or controlled against her will, but simply accepted what Yagorath offered her.
  • Concept art for the card A Broken Path initially showed more of Vora's life prior to becoming a warrior.
  • A future version of Vora is the one responsible for tearing off Atlas' arm, as revealed here.
  • The joke "Apparently Karne's son almost managed to cause armageddon in my stead; now that is funny. *laughs*" (▶️) is a reference to how in Atlas' trailer, Corvus is revealed to be the one responsible for unleashing the Darkness in Atlas' timeline, as can be seen here.
  • Though Vora was given new powers by an otherwordly force similar to Furia and Seris, as revealed here, Vora is the actual name of the character and not a title.

  • As revealed here and here, a future version of Vora is present in Atlas' card No One Escapes, as well as in his splash art. A better look at the latter can be seen here.
  • Io is present in the cards New Purpose and False Idol, as a statue on the latter.
  • Vora is the only default character to directly mention both Karne and Valera by name. Karne twice (▶️ ▶️), and Valera once (▶️). She shares these traits with Corvus (mentions Karne), and Overlord Khan (mentions both Karne and Valera).
  • Vora appears in Yagorath's splash art, as well as her card Dreadful Compact.
  • Yagorath appears as an additional voice in Vora's default voice pack, this being prior to Yagorath's reveal.
    • This also makes Vora the only character to feature another champion in their voice pack.

  • The line "Not with a bang, but a whimper." (▶️) is a reference to the poem The Hollow Men.
    • The line "There is no such thing as justice, this is how the world goes." (▶️) may also be a reference to the poem.

  • In an effort to promote Vora, Paladins artist Thunderbrush would change his profile picture and banner on Twitter a number of times prior to Vora's reveal. The first change came on July 1st, 2020, where Thunderbrush changed his profile picture to this image, which would later be revealed as an edited version of Vora's default splash art, while Thunderbrush would change his banner to this image at the same time, which would later be revealed to be the background of an alternate unused splash art of Vora's, as seen here.
    • Following this, Thunderbrush would share a piece related to the Battle Pass of the time, Radiant Stars, which featured a mysterious figure in the background, later revealed to be Galactic Conqueror Vora.
    • On September 18th, 2020, Thunderbrush would again change his profile picture and banner on Twitter. His profile picture would be changed to this image, which Thunderbrush would later reveal to be an alternate unused splash art for Vora's Seal Guardian skin (also revealing Vora's default appearance originally had a similar unused splash art, which was changed due to better wanting to differentiate Vora's pre-corrupted and corrupted forms), while his banner would be changed to this image, which is also the background for the unused splash art of Vora's Seal Guardian skin.
  • Another separate effort was also being made to promote Vora prior to her reveal. From September 21st to the 24th of 2020, packages were sent to several notable influencers in the Paladins community. These included metrobirdman on the 21st, I_Dodge_Bulletz on the 22nd, Jay Flare on the 23rd, and finally, KamiGG on the 24th. Each received a satchel, containing a sample of the Darkness, as revealed here, as well as a torn piece of paper, each with a different part of a bigger map on one side, while the other contained a unique written message.
    • metrobirdman's package can be seen here. The piece of the map he was sent can be seen here, while the letter he received can be viewed here. This is the only package to be addressed from "the son of a legendary judge."
    • The letter reads as follows: "Blow the horn of Arturos. The forest will call upon the alliances of the past."
    • Arturos was the name of Cassie's father in the alpha lore of the game. It's not known if this is still the case.
      • I_Dodge_Bulletz package can be seen here. The piece of the map he was sent can be seen here, while the letter he received can be viewed here.
      • The letter reads as follows: "Rally your army back home before the Magistrate runs out of time."
        • Jay Flare's package can be seen here. The piece of the map he was sent can be seen here, while the letter he received can be viewed here.
        • The letter reads as follows: "I know you wish to prove your throne. Stoke your mines and look towards our future."
          • KamiGG's package can be seen here. The piece of the map he was sent can be seen here, while the letter he received can be viewed here.
          • The letter reads as follows: "Ask yourself how you want history to remember you and your guild."
            • When brought together, the complete map appears. A higher quality version with more information was later released, as can be seen here.

  • As revealed here, Vora was initially more monstrous in appearance, but it was decided to split her monstrous side into a "spin-off" champion in Yagorath, so that Vora could shine more as a character.
  • Vora and Yagorath had their voice packs recorded at the same time, as revealed here.
  • As revealed here, Vora was initially meant to release earlier (prior to Corvus), as expanded on here, around the same time as Atlas and Io, but was pushed back due to resource reasons.
  • As revealed here, one of the original concepts for Vora was to feature her attaching to walls like a spider, then becoming invisible and waiting for someone to pass by, at which point she would appear and assassinate them. However, this concept was decided to not be a good fit, and would result in Vora potentially accomplishing absolutely nothing if no one were to pass by.
    • In two lines Vora states "All good things to those who wait." (▶️ ▶️); these may be a remnant from her original concept.
      • This early concept of Vora may be the design created to go with this initial gameplay concept. As also revealed here, Vora was originally going to wield dual scythes. However despite this, the dual scythe-wielding character in Ska'drin and Scorned Ash's splash art isn't Vora, as stated here, and specified here to be Maeve.
  • Another early concept for Vora shows her wielding an extendable sword.
  • What is believed to be an early unfinished version of Vora's avatar can be seen here. The style is noticeably different from her final avatar and appears to an image of her in-game model.
  • Vora's spawn chatter line with Io (▶️) was originally intended to be different, as revealed here, but it had to be changed.
  • Concept art for some of Vora's cards shows different, unused artwork.
  • Vora originally only had two long introduction lines (▶️ ▶️), but after complaints that Vora talked too much, two other shorter lines (▶️ ▶️) were added to her possible introductions.
  • Vora originally had a different unused splash art, as can be seen here, however, it was changed due to better wanting to differentiate Vora's pre-corrupted and corrupted forms.

  • Vora herald smallHerald
  • A herald is an official messenger or a sign of something about to occur.
  • Vora sealguardian smallVora honorguard smallSeal Guardian / Honor Guard
  • The Seal Guardian skin appears in the cards A Broken Path and A Change of Faith, making it, Abyssal Lord Drogoz and Remix Pepper the only skins to appear in card art.
    • The Seal Guardian skin also has the distinction of appearing in two different cards, as opposed to the other skins' singular appearances.
  • These skins are some of the few to have appeared in an official lore video; they share this trait with Aurora Furia, Dragonborn Moji, Outlaw Sha Lin, and Guild Skye.
    • The Seal Guardian skin has the distinction of appearing in two lore videos (Vora's teaser trailer and Yagorath's teaser trailer), as opposed to the singular appearances of the previously mentioned skins.
  • The Seal Guardian skin is currently one of the only completely canon skins. It shows how Vora appeared prior to becoming corrupted by the Darkness.
  • These skins originally had a different splash art, as revealed here, however, it was changed due to wanting to better differentiate Vora's corrupted and noncorrupted forms.
