||
+ | *Though it's a popular theory that [[Zhin]] is the "bandit king" that imprisoned Ying, and that she was rescued by [[Sha Lin]], it is only that, a theory, and isn't canon unless officially confirmed. Ying ▶️ is a Support Champion in Paladins, added on April 7th, 2016.
Lore[ | ]
This is Ying's official bio currently found in her champion page in-game.
A talented young spellcaster, Ying is a master of illusions and trickery, able to befuddle her opponents with bewildering misdirection. That same magic can also soothe the minds of her allies to ease their suffering and mend their wounds.
She was forced to use these skills to escape the hunt of a criminal king who wanted her power over illusions, one who she hopes to bring to justice as she adventures across the Realm. When the Magistrate began its campaign of conquest, subjugating the Realm in an attempt to restrict the use of magic by the common folk, she felt it was her responsibility to join the fight against their oppression and protect others like herself.
Turns out, her justice would find its way back to her.
This is an unofficial version of Ying's bio intended to more clearly present all currently known information regarding her. Sources can be found here.
A master of illusions and trickery, Ying put her abilities to good use to escape the imprisonment of a bandit king. She later became an adventurer, and when the Crystal War broke out, Ying felt it was her responsibility to join the Resistance.
Following House Aico gaining leadership of the Magistrate, Ying joined Zhin's New Resistance.
According to Atlas, in the Lost Future, Ying would end up dying at some point.
This was Ying's in-game bio prior to the The Damned Frontier update. It's no longer considered canon.
A talented young spellcaster, Ying is a master of illusions and trickery, able to befuddle her opponents with bewildering misdirection. That same magic can also soothe the minds of her allies to ease their suffering and mend their wounds. She made good use of those skills to escape imprisonment by a bandit king and during her days as an adventurer afterward.
When the Magistrate began its campaign of conquest, subjugating the Realm in an attempt to restrict the use of magic by the common folk, she felt it was her responsibility to join the fight against the tyranny.
Summary[ | ]
Ying is a support champion able to heal allies from a distance through her Illusions. Her Illusory Mirror fires very fast beams of energy and also allows her to Shatter her deployed illusions, causing them to seek enemies and explode to deal damage around them. Her Dimensional Link permits her to switch places with her illusions, allowing her to quickly reposition herself. Ying's Ultimate ability, Illusory Rift, applies a strong healing buff to all of her allies, that also allows her movement skill to also teleport to an ally's current positions.

Trivia[ | ]
Lore
- Though it's a popular theory that Zhin is the "bandit king" that imprisoned Ying, and that she was rescued by Sha Lin, it is only that, a theory, and isn't canon unless officially confirmed. When a developer was asked about it, they only gave a vague answer that didn't hint one way or the other.[1]
- Ying is not limited to only creating illusions of herself, as shown in the tutorial where she creates illusions of Androxus.
- Though Ying's bio describes the Magistrate in a villainous light, the description is merely Ying's own personal opinion on them.[2]
- Based on a dev statement revealing Viktor to be around 5'9 or 175cm tall and comparing it to model sizes in-game and out of game, it was discovered that Ying would be around 4'9 or 149cm tall.

Concepts
- Ying had several icon concepts prior to the final choice being settled on.[4]
- Concept art shows Ying's mirror originally had a different design.[5]
- Various pirate-themed skin concepts were created, but never materialized in-game; among them, is the Pirate Ying skin.[6]
- There are a number of additional skin concepts for Ying that ultimately went unused; these include various types of skins, such as an astronaut and faerie skin to name a few.[7]
- Another unused skin concept is the Hotline skin, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ying's Street Style skin.[8]
- Several additional pieces of artwork were also created showing a different modernly dressed skin reminiscent of Street Style.[9][10]
- A concept for a type of skin that "leveled up" over time, progressing from a relatively simple design to a more complex skin was thrown around, with a concept design intended for Ying being created to demonstrate the idea. While the "level up" aspect was deemed "too costly", this specific skin design could be brought back as a regular skin someday.[11]
Other
- Ying was initially a damage Champion when she was added in Closed Beta 20, her old abilities can be seen here. She was temporarily removed from the game in Closed Beta 23, before being readded as a support in Open Beta 34; the first version of Open Beta.
- In the trailer for Maeve's Raeve skin, Ying can be seen using an emote not present in-game, this can be seen here, and the emote itself can be viewed here.
- Ying used to have a unique animation that played when her weapon was changed in the lobby, but it was eventually removed. Ying's idle animation used to be slightly different as well.[12]
- One of Ying's clones in her teaser trailer notably has the cloth around her shoulders clip into her arms.
- As of the RWBY update, Ying holds the record for most unique skins (that being skins with a unique voice pack) with a total of 9 unique skins. However, Seris has more skins overall with a total of 21 skins, while Ying only has 20.
- Ying had two unused weapon skins in older versions of Paladins, these being the Daffodil and Carnation skins; both being recolors of Ying's default weapon.
- In older versions of Paladins, there used to be a number of additional recolors of default champions. For Ying, these recolors included the Mystic and Soothsayer skins.
- Having been present in the mobile game 'Paladins Strike', Ying received unique skins exclusive to Strike. These skins include Butterfly Ying, Mermaid Ying, and Zodiac Ying.
